A handsome and substantially sized oval mirror with a wonderfully dimensional open ribbon crest, the moulded frame with concentric moulding details, the innermost of which is a dimensional “pearl” border. The mirror plate is beveled and appears to be original, with minor speckling from de-silvering and a hint of mercury glass sparkle in places. Good antique condition: the gilding has an attractive aged and rubbed patina, with clay bole evident and some craquelure, all stable. The ribbon crest has an antiqued deep cream painted finish, making a nice contrast with the gilded surfaces. Retains original wooden back. Ca. third quarter of the 19th century.
