A fine quality and fanciful Rococo border glass mirror with gathered palm frond surrounds rising to a crest of branches and an openwork Rococo cartouche at the center. The inner moulding is remarkable for the large size of the handsome carved pearl beading. Nice bright gilt finish with patina, normal wear with some gilt loss throughout revealing reddish clay undercoating and gesso. The sides of the mirror are carved and gilt wood and some normal shrinkage has occurred resulting in some separations. Small scattered restorations to these areas and to the top corners. Original mirror plates with typical signs of age and delivering speckling. Wooden paneled back. Ca. Mid 19th century.
