Louis XV Period Provincial Commode in Celadon Blue Painted Finish

Louis XV Period Provincial Commode in Celadon Blue Painted Finish

$5,400.00

A two drawer “sauteuse" commode with cabriole legs in front and a dropped apron all the way around which meanders gracefully in serpentine lines, with a carved shell centered at the front. This piece is a charming combination of the rustic and the Rococo: signs of age, worming, paint distress and wear are found throughout, yet an air of simple elegance elevates the piece through its form, fine bronze hardware and very nice deep purple/red original marble top. One drawer front has been remade, probably due to excessive worming, later painted finish likely done at this time. Ca. mid 18th century, southern French or Italian.
