Large American Classical Figured Mahogany Chest of Drawers, 19th Century

A very fine ca. 1820-1830 New England Classical chest of drawers with highly figured flame mahogany timber dramatically placed across the drawer fronts and sides. The chest has five drawers, one in the discreet overhang of the top section, (notched underneath with handles) the others with bold and very decorative original brass repoussé knobs. The slight projection of the top drawer and the square tapered pilaster form stiles elegantly frames the four other drawers of the front. Fine details like the Ionic capitals of the pilasters and the form of the turned feet are quite unusual. The feet take after English pieces more than American design of the same era, with bold gadrooning around the widest point. Very good antique condition with some signs of age, slight scuffs, minor marks to the top and a some typical wear at the bottom edges of the case.
