Pair of Exceptional Early English Gilt Imari Sauce Tureens
Of the highest quality, possibly Chamberlains Worcester, these early sauce tureens feature great details, extreme refinement and an unusually light palette with sections of salmon colored ground with gilt decoration as well as fresh green tree and leaf designs. These make lovely decorative objects suitable for display or use. The glazes and gilding are in very good condition, with only slight wear to the gilding, mainly to the undertray edges. These are unmarked except for a hand engraved mark under one undertray resembling a “2,” indicating a quite early date of ca. 1805-1815. It was not unusual for the earliest pieces of fine English porcelain to be unmarked, while later pieces were more likely to be marked as the market matured and the various manufactories branded themselves. Dimensions given are for a each ensemble set comprised of tureen, lid and undertray.
