French Landscape Tapestry with Pheasants, 19th Century
$0.00
A fine wool tapestry featuring a pair of pheasants standing in a verdure pattern of oversized foliage and vague landscape elements, executed in an unusually warm palette of salmon, cream, pinks and shades of green. The foliate and floral border is woven of a piece with the tapestry, with a hand stitched border of light salmon cotton on the outermost edge. Hand stitched muslin backing added later. A stitched pocket holds a hanging rod along the top. Can be hung with any drapery brackets. Mid 19th century. Very good antique condition - typical irregularities to the weave here and there. Hanging rod measures approx. 52.”
