This image was part of an illustrated Natural History compendium of known 19th century mammals illustrated by J. C. Werner and published in volumes between 1818 and 1842. This sheet is the rather cute “Daman,” lightly hand colored, with its fur rendered in almost photographic detail. Signed “Lith. de Langlumé” and “Werner pinx; et Lith.” Well matted in a simple silver gilt frame. Bears a collection mark stamp of “CB.” Light toning to the paper.
