An elegant and pristine hexagonal box of engraved panels bordered with slim filets of tortoiseshell, the interior lined with cushioned blue silk. The top is divided into a radiating pattern centered on the portrait of a young European lady in a white lace dress, her hair in ringlets framing her face. Illegibly signed. Old label on the underside which appears to note an inventory number and perhaps the owner’s name and subject. Probably mid 19th century. Very good antique condition, very light wear to the silk lining of the lid.
