Made in Greenfield, Massachusetts by J. Russell & Co., a firm founded in 1833 and active until 1936, this set dates post 1837, when the mark borne by the knife was adopted. The firm began making tools, hunting and utility knives, but soon commenced producing fine cutlery to compete directly with English Sheffield. These pieces have lustrous mother of pearl handles in excellent condition with decorative silver ferules.
