Large Rose Mandarin Porcelain Lamp with Fancy Brass Fittings
Large Rose Mandarin Porcelain Lamp with Fancy Brass Fittings
A large and elegant Chinese Export Famille Rose Vase adapted into a lamp with very handsome polished brass reposussé decorative fittings at the base and cap. The lightly fluted baluster body of the lamp is enhanced by long applied dragon elements at the neck and finely painted scenes below. A Rose Canton vignette of flowers and birds is the focal point, flanked by a pair of Rose Mandarin court scenes containing many unusual decorative elements such as dragon heads, medallions, pearls and fantastical creatures. Now wired with a vintage “silk wrapped” gold cord and twin sockets with pull chains. Good antique condition, fading to some of the the glazed decorations, but retaining all detail, just softened. Color overall is lovely, clear and light with appealing touches of aqua and salmon. Wear to the gilding of the dragons along the raised portions. New cream colored linen textured drum shade. Vase dates ca. 1850’s-1860’s.
