A lovely set of five polychrome and gilt decorated plates in the charming butterfly pattern. Well painted in greens, blue, iron oxide, yellow and black, each butterfly is intricately detailed with gilt highlights. Slight differences from plate to plate, one with various shades of light blue in the wings which is unusual and especially beautiful. Typical glaze irregularities and slight rubbing to the rims, overall excellent antique condition. Late 19th/early 20th century, red glaze mark “Made in China” or “China” on the back sides in accordance with the country of origin import law passed in 1891.
