A large silver on brass biscuit box with luxuriant engraving and nice lion head ring handles, bearing the Mappin & Webb mark on the underside. The scion of a multigenerational silver smithy, as a company name, “Mappin &Webb” dates to 1868 and it continued in various iterations with later family descendants until the mid 20th century. This piece stylistically dates ca. 1900- 1920, with extensive use of the thistle garland motif and an engraved cartouche containing the Initials “RA.” Good antique condition, polished, normal light surface wear, light patina, slight undulation to the front bottom rim. A very handsome piece.
