Fine Chinese Export Porcelain, Blue and Gilt- Group of Four Pieces
Fine Chinese Export Porcelain, Blue and Gilt- Group of Four Pieces
A four piece collection probably made for the American market, ca. 1785, consisting of a gilt decorated “cut corner” salad bowl accompanied by a trio of matching blue, white and gold plates, each with a sepia landscape vignette depicting a handsome Palladian inspired building at the center. The rims of the plates are rimmed in blue with gilt stars and fleurs de lys, amid other delicate ornamental motifs, the oval piece with a fine reticulated rim. Plates are in exceptional condition with gilt wear to the outermost edges, one landscape somewhat faded. Salad bowl features an elegant and spare decoration of gold on white: a delicate leafy guilloche pattern around the rim that shows moderate wear, gilt flower sprigs and ciphers that read “TC” are clear with only slight wear, nice orange peel texture to the body of the bowl. Typical signs of age and artisanal irregularities to all.
