A joyful scene unfolds outside a European tavern, with its blue sign hung out, lantern affixed, ready to light it up after dark. Groups of people dressed in finery populate the balcony and the street below, where a couple arrives in a wagon drawn by caparisoned horses while a bagpipe player approaches. In addition to observing citizens, there are animals: a performing bear, a monkey in human clothes, a tiny dog bounds around, while a goat looks on a distance. Good antique condition, some craquelure, typical unevenness to the canvas, canvas relined, probably cleaned, very good clear colors throughout. Nice antique gilded frame, some subtle losses, restorations to the frame. Apparently unsigned.
