Originally drawn by Louis-Jacques Goussier (1722-1799) an important contributor from 1747 on, to Dennis Diderot’s masterpiece of the Enlightenment, the Encyclopédie. The engraver Robert Bénard (1734-1777) executed the engravings of the detailed drawings. They illustrate a variety of  large format shanked bits  and curb chains, some quite elaborately detailed. Handsomely framed in 20th century gilt wood frames with hand painted blue double matting and gilt details, the frames and engraved plates are in good antique condition, with minimal signs of age, light toning to the laid paper, only light wear to the frames, some antique patina, artisanal irregularities, as made.
