Pair of 18th Century Dutch Rococo Side Chairs

Pair of 18th Century Dutch Rococo Side Chairs
An exceptional pair of carved elm wood Rococo Period chairs, ca. 1740-1760. These chairs are beautifully carved on three sides, with dimensional foliate and scroll forms, the complex overlapping of elements in the crest being particularly notable and refined. The curved profile of the seat rails is carried through to join the carving of the legs. The raked seat backs add another element of drama to these fine chairs. Good restored antique condition with signs of age, wear to the carving, evidence of having had overstuffed upholstery tacked over the seat edges at one time, now fitted with drop in seat cushions. The undersides show worming and restoration to reinforce the seats which are sturdy. New linen blend upholstery in printed toile of coral, celery, sky blue and grey on cream.
