French Louis XV Style Marquetry Satinwood and Tulipwood Dressing Table

French Louis XV Style Marquetry Satinwood and Tulipwood Dressing Table

$3,600.00

A fine transitional Louis XV/ Louis XVI style dressing table, also known as a “coiffeuse” or a “poudreuse” in French, with three compartments accessed from the top and three drawers below, the center section containing a mirror. The timber is luminous and elegantly divided into tulipwood cross banded panels within each section to the top, drawers and all sides. The back side of the piece is completely finished and is perhaps the most attractive of all - the table could sit out in a room or be turned around back to front according to one’s preferences. Could even serve well as a console table. Each side is bombé in form: the sides are most markedly shaped. Good gilt bronze corner mounts and sabots are all present. Good antique condition with some light wear and small restorations to the surface where typical age related shrinkage has occurred, refinished: French polished. Mirror has some losses to the silvering.
