Early Georgian English Burl Walnut Highboy Chest on Stand

Early Georgian English Burl Walnut Highboy Chest on Stand

$6,500.00

A George I period highboy of fine matched burl walnut timber, herring bone banding and cross-grained moldings, this ca. 1720 piece has wonderful character, giving off an elegant but unfussy English country house feel. The upper case features a two over three format with the three being large drawers for ample storage, while the lower section has a pair of deep drawers flanking a slim center drawer set within the graceful arched profile of the base, which rests on four fully cabriole legs. Brass hardware is early though not original, of good quality and appropriate form. Good overall antique condition, with normal signs of age, dings, some typical age related distress mainly to the sides of the upper section, which show some wood shrinkage and old related restorations. Drawers function well. French polished and waxed surface. Provenance: retains 1974 Bill of Sale from Norman Foster ASID, Corpus Christi, Texas.
