A beautiful pair of Meiji Period Meiji polished bronze vases adapted into lamps, with bold and skillful relief decoration of birds- phoenixes or pheasants- and tree branches encircling the whole. The flat rims of the vases are finished with a low relief Greek key frieze and the carved wooden bases are ebonized. Late 19th-early 20th century. Black corset drum shades. Very good condition: surface irregularities as made, variations in patina.
