Florette Parquetry Transitional Louis XVI Commode with Marble Top
Florette Parquetry Transitional Louis XVI Commode with Marble Top
Dating to the late 18th century, a French or Italian small and stylish light fruitwood Transitional commode, of breakfront form, with its original conforming top of white marble. The whole two drawer case is decorated with parquetry panels of complex geometrical designs highlighted by pinwheel florettes, some of them retaining just a hint of an original green stain that would have set the florettes off against the golden tones of the rest of the parquetry. Nice brass corner mounts and sabots, which appear to be original. The Italian style medallion brass pulls, while antique and of appropriate form, are later, as is the escutcheon. Original lock and working key. Good antique condition with good French polished surface with typical signs of age, worming, some age appropriate distress, splice restorations to two legs. The polished marble top with normal signs of age, some marks.
