English Neoclassical Hot Water Urn, Silver on Copper, 19th Century

A large and handsome center piece for a sideboard, an antique silver on copper hot water urn or samovar, with a reeded body and fine engraved border decoration. The interior contains a brazier and a secondary lid. The handles are especially noteworthy and large: lion’s heads with rings. There are hints of copper showing, mainly to the top of the spout. Good antique condition, polished, with light wear and minor indentations. Marked on the bottom only with the stamp “SILVER EDG’D.” The lack of other marks and the brazier indicate a date probably toward the early 19th century.
