English Marquetry Bird’s Eye and Tiger Maple Inlaid Jewelry Box, 19th Century
$0.00
A lovely early 19th century box with contrasting bird’s eye maple and rosewood marquetry on the top and front and rosewood sides and back. The ornament is composed of stylized yet naturalistic foliate forms with sprigs forming a vignette with a striding horse at the center. The interior is upholstered in cushioned velvet and silk. Good antique condition with typical signs of wear and age to the wood surfaces: some old scratches and dings, all attractively French polished over. Some wear to the patterned silk of the lid: the silk may be original, with the velvet and moiré likely later.
