English Caneware Covered Game Pie Dish, Early 19th Century

English Caneware Covered Game Pie Dish, Early 19th Century

$0.00

A fine ca. 1800 ornamental baking dish, made of relief decorated earthenware known as caneware, that was principally produced by Wedgwood in the early years of the 19th century. This dish is unusual in that it has no marks and is slightly redder in color than comparable Wedgwood. The decoration is also of interest: the Neoclassical paterae and garland decoration is architecturally derived, while the lid has a naturalistic sprig and rose bud composition modeled on Chinese export tureens of the era.
