Antique English Polished Steel and Brass Open Frieze Fender with Built in Tool Rests
An exceptionally elegant serpentine late 19th century fender, the frieze composed of griffins and scrolling forms punctuated by flowers. All of the decorative frieze elements are also deeply engraved enhancing their ornamental quality. There is a heavy duty cast iron spark guard that is fitted into the back, to prevent sparks from blowing under the fender. Polished steel bun feet support the front. Fantastic quality all around. Good antique condition, with signs of age, mainly to the lower brass moulding which has some dings and irregularities to the brass, some light patina; minor oxidation to the polished steel here and there. Provenance: private collection at Ayrshire Farm, Upperville, VA.
