A very fine French Paris porcelain vase with gilded caryatid handles adapted into a lamp. In exceptional condition, the gilding and decoration pristine, the scenes are of a seascape on one side and a related scene (the escape from the island with Friday and the Spaniard) from the popular 1719 novel “Robinson Crusoe” on the other. The vase can be rotated to show either scene at the front. An explanatory caption from the book is meticulously hand painted on the side with the figures. Late 19th century. Mounted oh a brass and pewter stepped base. New silk pleated Empire shade, “silk” wrapped gold cord.
