Fine Kakiemon Famille Rose Porcelain Japanese Vase Lamp
Fine Kakiemon Famille Rose Porcelain Japanese Vase Lamp
An exceptional Kakiemon Japanese vase later adapted into a lamp, the coloring and imagery unusually closely aligned with palette of Chinese export porcelain wares of the Rose Canton and Rose Medallion patterns. The complexity and delicacy of the very fine decoration is remarkable, the main scene depicting two people gazing over a harbor, the rear scene depicting a garden, with asymmetrical fans, flourishes and patterns forming framework and punctuation all over the faintly celadon ground. Gilding is bright and well distributed with a bold use found in the kimono of the main figure. Linen shade. Probably mid 19th century. Hand painted mark to the bottom. Very good antique condition, with typical firing flaws and some shallow flaking to the edge of the bottom. Bottom has felt covering.
