A large and very ornamental caramel colored English “treacle” glazed earthenware figural group, also known as “treacle ware,” in a wonderful Rococo composition, the lions with putto riders pulling a seashell inspired chariot, all raised on a decorative plinth. Unusual in both its complexity and fine level of detail, this figural group is a delight to behold from all angles. Good overall condition, with typical artisanal irregularities, some small frits. Yorkshire or Staffordshire, second half of the 19th century.
