Group of Four Antique French Faience Plates, Pink Floral Designs
From the northeastern French region near Strasbourg, these plates featuring pink roses and sprays of smaller flowers are typical of the faience produced there for domestic use. One plate is a fine 18th century example with smaller more delicate decoration and a triple moulded serpentine edged rim. This plate retains an old dealer’s label describing it as from the faiencerie of St. Clément. The other plates include a pair (likely 19th century and a larger single plate dating to the 18th/early 19th century. In good antique condition typical for plates of this type, with many artisanal irregularities, some roughness to the edges, shallow flaking to the edges of two, craquelure to the glaze of one.
