$1,195.00
A fine patinated terracotta sculpture after the 18th century original by French sculptor Jean-Antoine Houdon. This young Alexandre, son of Alexandre-Théodore Brogniart, a successful and well connected 18th century French architect, grew up to become the director of the celebrated Sèvres porcelain factory from 1800 to 1847. The original terracotta sculpture is in the collection of the Louvre today. This sculpture was signed underneath in the wet clay: Atelier Petit. Probably early 20th century. Surface shows a patina of paint and wax, with signs of age, flecks of natural reddish terracotta showing through. Plinth is finished in a contrasting more neutral clay with light patina.
