A charming pair of British landscapes with figures and village vignettes. Dramatic blue skies and billowing trees frame idyllic terra-cotta roofed cottages and fields, showing people gathering and doing laundry at a stream. The frames are made of bird’s eye maple with silver gilt filets. Canvases have been relined. Both bear framer’s labels from Wimbledon, England as well as Christie’s sale labels. Early to mid 19th century. Good condition, typical signs of age: craquelure, variations to sheen.
