Pair of Chinese Export Paintings on Mulberry Pith Paper, 19th Century

$650.00

Very nicely double matted and framed in dark camel, blue and gold, with original light blue silk ribbon surrounds showing, this pair of gouache portraits features Chinese nobles, a lady and a gentleman. Colors are remarkably vivid, and the details beautifully intricate. Condition of the artwork is fairly good, the portrait of the man with toning to the paper and some tiny losses to the mulberry paper, (also known as rice paper), the other with small losses and inpainting where they occur, framing in excellent condition. Provenance: Argosy, New York, NY, private collection.
