Large Louis XVI Style Giltwood Pier Mirror
A large French wall or pier mirror with Neoclassical details, the arched top surmounted by a crest of crossed laurel branches as well as floral and military motifs in plaster: a flaming torch and a quiver of arrows. The lower corners are curved into volutes. “Pearl” beading completes the mirror surround. Original beveled mirror plate with some signs of age, light speckling. Retains the original wooden back boards. Good antique condition with some wear and signs of age to the frame, small restorations. Patina on the gilt surface shows two types of gilding: the flat surfaces and some crest elements form the brighter portions in gold leaf, darker bronze toned portions in brass leaf with variable oxidation and patina. Fourth quarter of the 19th century.
