A handsome English scroll crested walnut frame profile contains a raised walnut inner moulding terminating with a pointed ogival arch in the top center. A fine gesso carved and gilt shell relating to designs of the earlier George I period is featured at the center of the crest. Lovely walnut timber has the striated grain pattern typical of this period with an appealing mellow tone. A gilded acanthus carved filet surrounds an antique but not original beveled mirror plate with some speckled patination. Good antique condition. Ca. 1725-1745.
