Pair of Italian Neoclassical Armchairs, Painted and Gilded, 19th Century

$0.00

A very fine pair of very light blue (almost imperceptibly blue) painted and gilded Italian armchairs dating to the mid-19th century. The chairs are carved with Neoclassical fluting around the entire seat rail which rests on squared tapered and fluted legs, the rear legs jauntily raked back. The oval backs flow into the arms which retain a curvy Rococo feel. Structure and surfaces all in very good condition, sturdy, surfaces probably refreshed some decades ago, very skillfully done and patinated, now with light attractive wear. Comfortable sprung seats. Silk striped upholstery has some light stains; mainly to one seat cushion.
