A handsomely carved pair of waxed beechwood chairs with balloon seats resting on four cabriole legs. Stamped Alavoine et Cie, the recherché French firm, which opened a New York branch in 1893 and which was instrumental in the interior design and furnishing of the Waldorf Astoria, the Plaza, the mansions of Newport, R.I. and the like. Late 19th or early 20th century. Very comfortable.
