French Provincial Empire Period Painted Fauteuil, Early 19th Century

A black and parcel gilt early Empire armchair, ca. 1800-1810, with an incurved square back and square tapered legs ending in ball feet. The crest rail of the back is carved with a wreath centered on a rosette flanked by branches. The arms are accented by carved acanthus leaf. Very good condition, with minor wear to the paint and gilding. Traces of earlier blue-green paint under black.
