A very finely decorated pair of ca. 1850 plates, with a rare central composition featuring a stand of bamboo populated with birds, butterflies and including an aqua rockery motif. The rim is also an unusual variation, the reserves surrounded by tiny curlicues in red oxide. The design of the interiors owes inspiration to much earlier 18th century Kangxi and Yongzheng period Chinese porcelains with their delicate compositions of trees and bamboo.
