A charming pair of Sancai glazed terra cotta attendant figures standing on pedestals. The faces are finely modeled, each wearing a distinctive hat. Figures such as these were benevolent presences, who watched over the tombs of the well-to-do. 18th century or earlier. Good antique condition with attractive distressed surfaces, heavy wear in places, chips and losses along with many irregularities, as made. Heads are tight on the necks - possibly glued- often the heads are removable in figures of this type.
