Dutch Gilded Repoussé Cushion Mirror, 19th Century
Dutch Gilded Repoussé Cushion Mirror, 19th Century
A very finely executed repoussé mirror from the third quarter of the 19th century. The border glass portion is comprised of bands of guilloche and foliate relief. The shaped crest is wonderfully detailed with two putti upholding a leafy garland amid scrolling foliage. Classical details abound throughout.
The mirror frame is in overall very good condition. The gilding is most evident in the crest, elsewhere, the metal is rubbed to the brass, with some brighter glints in the crevices. Mirror plates are all present and original. The right hand outer plate has a straight crack going across about five inches down and there is a very short crack in the crest plate, less than an inch visible, very hard to spot. There is some desilvering to the main plate, fairly minimal.
