Set of Five 18th Century French Engravings of Small Mammals, (Martinet)
$0.00
A quirky set of five beautifully hand colored original engraved plates on laid paper, from the encyclopedic work Histoire Naturelle by the Comte de Buffon, published between 1770 and 1783. Each animal is depicted in a landscape setting, some of which are wonderfully fanciful, for example: Gothic ruins for the “Scherman,” a rat like creature. Other animals include two kinds of mole, a Chilean skunk and a bat.
