Depicting three species of Indian (Bengali) stags and three types of European fallow deer stags, these fine prints are superbly framed in large gilt wood frames ornamented with a guilloche motif and rondels at the corners. The cream matting is embellished with filage of green and ochre with grey inset matting. From “Histoire Naturelle des Mammifères,” written by  Geoffrey St. Hilaire and Frédéric Cuvier, and published with illustrations by Wermer in four volumes between 1824 and 1842. Plates include: “Axis,” “Cerf du Bengale,” “Cerf noir du Bengale,” Daim fauve,” “Daim va rieté noir” and “Daim, varieté blanche.” Some toning and foxing.
