Small Bronze Sculpture of a "Temple Toy " Horse, 19th Century India
$325.00
A charming cast bronze horse with elaborate caparisoned high pommeled saddle and trappings, and a braided mane and tail, the legs ending in wheeled axels. This was a temple offering, of a type known as “temple toys,” left by the devout at Hindu temples. This horse is heavy and the sculptural details are full of artisanal charm and irregularities. Heavy later wire axels, one wheel with thinner wire terminus.
