A fine pair of South American cast brass stirrups with elegant and bold anthemion decoration. Metal sheath stirrups like these would protect the wearer in brush and combat alike, and these were much used, showing heavy wear, from scratches to gouges, forming part of the patina, and also distress to the soles. The relief ornament has the highest polish, the bodies are more softly polished. Heavy wear, from scratches to gouges, distress to the soles, one with small loss to the back edge, other with a repair to the sole.
