Set of Four Fine Roman Architecture Engravings, Dated 1820

Set of Four Fine Roman Architecture Engravings, Dated 1820
A very finely framed and dramatic set of hand colored engravings of Roman architectural ruins: Claudian Aqueduct, Temple of Minerva Medica, Forum of Nerva and the Temple of Dea Tussis. These engravings were published in London in 1820, plate marks and dates intact underneath the fine matting. The views were engraved by Matthew Dubourg and published in “Views of the Remains of Ancient Buildings in Rome and its Vicinity” which in its entirety contained 26 aquatint views of significant Roman ruins. Coloring is excellent with minimal toning. The vintage framing is very good, with complex matting on a soft blue gray ground accented with gilt, tortoiseshell and hand painted filage. Attractive wear: distress/subtle retouch in terracotta to the edges of the frames.
