A fine group of original 18th century engraved versions of original drawings by the 17th century French Old Master artist Claude Lorrain, from the collection of the Duke of Devonshire. Included are Plate #’s 45, 91, 121, 140, 143 and 195 all bucolic scenes. Depicting country life in nature or in the classical world amid Roman villages and magnificent thickets of trees. Quirky goats and cattle are accompanied by classical figures rendered in painterly sepia wash coloring on wove paper. Each of these engravings, etched by Robert Earlom and published by John Boydell, is dated between 1774 and 1776. Good antique condition with some toning and foxing to the paper, newly framed in very smart gilt edged walnut frames with fine brass corner rosettes and French matting.
