A handsome antique oval mirror with a deeply moulded frame featuring bands of gilded ornament, including waterleaf at the inner rim and an unusual studded border on the outer edge, with the fine and three dimensional ribbon scroll and flower motif in the middle being the most prominent. Ca. 1900. Light wear and signs of age to the gilding, light desilvering of the beveled mirror plate. Provenance: bears a label from D. Matt, Inc., a frame seller and custom framer since 1920, on the Upper East Side of Manhattan frequented by the top decorators of the late 20th century and profiled in the NY Times in 1986.
