Pair of Walnut George I - George II Period Side Chairs, Early 18th Century

3,600.00

An elegant pair of early Georgian ca. 1720-1740 sidechairs, with solid vasiform backsplats resting on cabriole legs with pad feet in the front, turned and raked back in the rear. Striking fluid lines show early influence of Chinese chair design particularly in the extreme lumbar curve of the back. The turned and joined stretcher base of each chair also features a striking curve between the sides. Very good antique condition, with light wear form age and use. French polish finish is in very good condition, fresh upholstery. Later corner blocks have been added to the inner seat frame, bolstering sturdiness.
