Swedish Gustavian style, this pair of Continental armchairs features an interesting interplay of taut angles and curves between the straight backs/legs and the outward scrolled arms and round seats. Painted in a lightly antiqued cream finish, the flat moulded edges are gilt, along with a few details like the bull’s eye rondels atop each leg and the elongated carved rosettes. The upholstery is a very high quality heavy silk with elegant floral motifs in the 18th century manner, in very good condition. Chairs are probably late 20th century, light wear, dings, and some intentional distress to the paint and gilding, giving them a sophisticated antique look.
