French Provincial Walnut Buffet à Deux Corps, Early 19th Century
A large and very handsome buffet à deux corps, traditional French two part cupboard. The cabinet below is fitted with one sturdy shelf while the multi-compartmented top portion is fitted for adjustable shelving. The upper cabinet has an upholstered interior- please see detail- with a chic diamond pattern in studs on the sides. Beautifully proportioned throughout, the cabinet doors are each deeply carved with interestingly shaped moulded panels while the bottom skirt across the front is carved with subtle Neoclassical triglyphs, guttae and a rosette. Early 19th century. Good antique condition, with waxed surface, distress, worming and signs of age, some small losses and restorations. Comes apart into three main pieces for moving: cornice, upper cabinet and lower cabinet.
