Large and elegantly framed and matted arrays of 19th century intaglios, two-toned in ivory and white, displayed in patterns. Intaglios are decorative plaster medallions that were popularly collected in the 18th and 19th centuries by European and American gentlemen on the Grand Tour of Italy. Originally, intaglios were casts of Roman carved figural and scenic gemstones, but they were later also produced as original small memento versions of a wide variety of works of art, and commemorative portraits of historical figures. These collections include all of the above types.
